HISTORY

It quickly became apparent that the DB 680 was a product that many professional bassists would want to own. The company grew from having one employee to several in the first two years. Early adopters of the DB 680 included John Patitucci (Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea), Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt), Mark Browne (Paula Cole), Howie Epstein (Tom Petty), Marcus Miller, Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith) and Gary Tallent (Bruce Springsteen).

As the company grew in the late 1990’s Aguilar’s product line was expanded to include tube power amps and heads such as the DB 728 and the DB 359.

The “OBP” line of preamps was designed for installation inside the bass guitar. These preamps gave flexibility and hi-fidelity tone to many bassists and were adopted as original equipment by many leading bass builders. By 1997, a line of bass cabinets, the “GS” series, was now part of the Aguilar line.

In recent years Aguilar has also added the extremely popular AG Series of heads and the new DB series of cabinets. Their most recent product, the Tone Hammer, is their first foot pedal and is the beginning of a new line of tools for bass players. These new products have allowed the company to reach a wider demographic in both price point and aesthetic.

Aguilar has grown into a well-respected manufacturer of bass gear that is enjoyed by bassists all over the world. In 2004 David Boonshoft purchased Alex Aguilar’s shares and became the sole owner of Aguilar Amplification. On Mr. Aguilar’s departure, Geof Lipman became Chief Technical Officer. He is known at Aguilar Amplification as an engineer who can “bring to life” the musical ambitions of David Boonshoft and his associate, Dave Avenius (Chief Operating Officer). With a team of many talented and dedicated employees, Aguilar Amplification looks forward to a future of innovation and the creation of inspiring musical tools for bass players.

AGUILAR AMPLIFICATION- MISSION STATEMENT:
Aguilar Amplification is dedicated to using superior engineering processes to make advanced musical tools for bass players. We believe that our products contribute greatly to the voice of the instrument. The bass, amplifier and cabinet all function together as one.

At Aguilar we approach every product that we manufacture with a real world, “musical” understanding. Because we are bass players as well as engineers, we can visualize gear from the musician’s perspective.

After only a little more than a decade of operation, Aguilar amplifiers and cabinets can be found on stages and in studios around the world. We’re proud to have contributed to the tone and feeling of countless great bass performances and recordings.

COMPANY HISTORY:
As a busy New York session bassist, David Boonshoft recorded in many high-end studios throughout the 90’s. After deciding what features he liked and didn’t like about various pieces of gear, Boonshoft decided to commission talented NYC engineer, Alex Aguilar, to work with him on building a high quality preamp for his own personal use. Since the preamp was so useful Boonshoft and Aguilar decided to put it into production as the DB 680 and in 1995, Aguilar Amplification was born.
