ARTIST OF THE MONTH

GREG STRONG

Greg from Amber Pacific is new to the Aguilar roster of endorsees.  He got his DB 750 and DB 810 just in time to go on the Warped Tour.  With his busy schedule we appreciate the time he took to answer a few questions.

DA - Amber Pacific is from Seattle but your style of music is much more New York/New Jersey.  Did being outside of the scene make it easier or more difficult for you to break through?

Greg: I would say easier.  In the Seattle scene there seems to be more of a concentration on indie sounding music rather then pop punk.  A pop sounding band in this area kinda sticks out like a sore thumb.  We draw from a number of influences, a great deal being from the New Jersey area but we also have a number from the California scene as well.

DA - What do you think about when you're writing your bass parts?  Doubling the guitars? Melody?

Greg: Usually I will start with doubling guitar parts, then it's almost like I can hear a bass line in my head, I just have to find it and make it happen.  Sometimes I have little riffs that I have stored in the back of my mind and just have to find the right song to fit them in.  Growing up I learned playing along with a lot of ska and faster paced bands with amazing bassists such as Rancid / Operation Ivy, AFI, Less Than Jake and Saves The Day and then learned to calm things down a bit from more pop oriented bands like New Found Glory, Blink 182, and NOFX.  So I kind of mesh the different influences together along with whatever I'm hearing in my head.  Sometimes things need to be a bit complicated, sometimes they just need to be simple.

DA - How did your Aguilar rig hold up for you on the Warped Tour this year? Did you get many compliments from the other bands?

Greg:  My Aguilar gear played like a champion everyday!!  In the past I have had quite a few problems with gear on the Warped Tour but since
playing with my Aguilar rig the only problem I had was having a photographer's foot pull the plug mid song haha.  I don't think I've ever received more comments on my gear then I have on this tour, and we were only on the first half of the tour!

DA - What made you want to use Aguilar?

Greg:  On our tour with Matchbook Romance I was having a lot of head problems and Ryan Kienle would do his best to help me out and one day he said I should look into Aguilar then he did one better and told me to grab my bass and play through his rig.  We didn't even change any settings and it sounded amazing!  From that point on I was hooked and I couldn't be happier with my how things are sounding.  I've never heard a cab sound like my 8x10 does, I love the way it feels when it hits me in the chest, and the DB-750 speaks for itself, simple but so powerful.

DA - What's next for Amber Pacific?  Any big tours we should watch out for?

Greg:  Right now we are gearing up for our first national headlining tour that goes from August-October.  Then we will come home and continue writing and head into the studio this fall!
