Justin Meldal-Johnsen

Aguilar Amplification is proud to announce the addition of bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen to their family of endorsing artists. Justin has built up an extensive resume since emerging from L.A.’s alternative scene in the early nineties. His versatility has led him to record and/or perform with Beck, Tori Amos, Macy Gray, Air, Dido, Garbage, Black Eyed Peas, The Dixie Chicks, Mars Volta, Marianne Faithful, Ima Robot, Ladytron, Brad Mehldau, Goldfrapp and many others. As important as it is to make a track “feel good”, playing with such a diverse range of artists requires more than that; you need something special, something that Justin has in spades - the rare ability to combine deep grooves with an unerring sense of melody in any musical situation.

Justin is currently playing with Nine Inch Nails, and was one of the first artists to bring the new DB 751 amplifier out on the road. Justin says, "This is a very inspiring amplifier! As soon as I plug into it, the tone is fantastic without touching a thing. Beyond that, every control does something effective and musical. Needless to say, it is also devastatingly loud."

For the Nine Inch Nails tour, Justin is running the DB 751 into a DB 810 cabinet, an AG 500 into a DB 412, the AGRO distortion preamp and the Tone Hammer preamp/D.I. Justin says of his new gear, “I did a shootout during spring Nine Inch Nails rehearsals with plenty of other great gear, and Aguilar rose to the top. I have a soft spot for super high-quality, handmade stuff, which is exactly what Aguilar seems to specialize in. The gear has an elegant, clean visual aesthetic that I like. Everything is functional and simple, with minimal bells and whistles. The line of cabinets is strong from top to bottom, making it hard to lose with any choice.”
